Our black panther mascot is big cat with melanistic (or black) coloring. The black coloring has been confirmed in both leopards (about 11% of the population) and jaguars (about 6% of the population in South America). Black panthers became very popular after the debut of the superhero and subsequent movie.
Many schools and colleges, and sports teams use the panther as their mascot, including the NFL's Carolina Panthers.
